Vector Files
There are two main types of images: vector and raster.
Vector Images
- Built from mathematically defined lines and curves.
- Can be resized infinitely without losing resolution or quality—perfect for printing!
- Common vector file formats: AI, EPS, SVG, and PDF (when built as a vector).
Raster Images
- Made of a grid of pixels, which can lose quality when resized.
- Common raster file formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and BMP.
Is My PDF Vector or Raster?
PDFs are often vector files but can also contain raster artwork. Here's how to check:
- Open your PDF and zoom in:
- At 125% zoom, vector and raster PDFs may appear the same.
- At 800% zoom, raster PDFs look pixelated or fuzzy, while vector PDFs remain sharp and clear.
- Pay close attention to curved areas for clarity differences.
